“What sort of people run Discovery Parties?”
Jen Gash originally designed Discovery Party to be used by life coaches, to run parties in peoples homes. However, over the years, Jen has been asked to run parties in all sorts of different environments, such as businesses, community groups, schools and work teams, leading Jen to realise that Discovery Party could be used by all sorts of coaches.
We also recognise that other professional groups such as psychologists and therapists and those working in learning and development, would also benefit from our approach. Therefore we judge each application to become a Discovery Party coach, individually.
But naturally, Discovery Party suits people who enjoy group-work, like having fun and enjoy getting out.
“What are the benefits of becoming a Discovery Party® coach?”
There are many benefits and you can read about them in this document here. Briefly, the main benefits are:
- Having a unique set of tools and processes for working creativity with groups of people, in a fun, relaxed way!
- Getting paid to market yourself. Running a party gets you meeting real potential clients whilst earning you money from each party
- Growing your business. Your email mailing list will grow, your personal “tribe” will build, which can lead to other opportunities
- Developing new skills. Running parties will grow your skills as a coach and group facilitator
- oh and it’s fun!
“How do I apply?”
You can apply for a license here but you also need to fill in a brief application form, which you will be sent after you have made your purchase. Discovery Party® has been designed for those with a coaching or related qualification in personal development. All applications are looked at individually as we want to make sure you will be happy joining our family. If or any reason it is not approved, you will be given a full refund.
Once payment and the application are processed you will receive a personal login for the resources and training page. All the training can be done online, but the best way is just to get stuck in and have a play with the games with some of your friends!
“What does a license cost?”
There are two ways to buy a license:
Basic Package
There is an initial license fee of £795 (US $1200). Each subsequent year costs £100 (US $150), to retain your license. This provides you with continued use of the brand, your website listing, continued access to all the resources and support mentioned previously. If you run only 8 – 10 parties, you should make your initial investment back, in a short period.

– an online training package including training manual, tools and resources
– a website listing your practice on our site
– use of the Discovery Party® logo and associated branding and tools
– the opportunity to contribute blog postings
Enhanced package
The investment for this package is £1395 (US $2100), with each subsequent year costing £100 (US $150), to retain your license. This enhanced package, only available in the UK, includes the above, plus:
– a full day training with Jen. (These days will be run in January, May and October each year in Bristol). If over-subscribed, additional dates will be provided)
– Three, one hour telephone mentoring sessions with Jen
– A start up pack of 20 Genies and 20 DP postcards
(You can opt to get the training day and mentoring sessions, at a later date, if you feel it would be helpful).
“What is included in the training?”
The online training resources are comprehensive and cover: the philosophy of the parties; the party plan model of tribe building; group-work and facilitation; the games and tools; marketing and business building.
A full manual is available to download. Training videos are provided throughout as well as word documents to read. PDFs of all the resources are given.
If you opt for the enhanced package (in the UK) you get a days face to face training and two hours of telephone mentoring sessions with Jen.
Additional mentoring support can be requested at a reduced rate. Peer support can also be gained from the Linked In forum which you will be invited to join.
“Will I be added to the website directory?”
Yes. Once you have joined, you will need to send us a short bio, email address and link to your website, along with a photo.
“Can I blog for Discovery Party?”
We hope that you will submit guest blogs* to us, which we can use either on the website or in mailings we send out. This will provide you with greater exposure and build your profile as a coach!
“How much will I earn from the parties?”
It depends on how you want to use the parties.
If you are running parties in people’s home, it’s important to remember that whilst getting paid for the parties, there is greater value in what you gain from raising your profile and marketing yourself locally. As well as building a group of people who could attend workshops, you can also take goods to sell at the party, which all increases your income.
This will vary according to the type of party you run, and the number of people attending. We ask you to charge no less than £10 (about US $15) per person for a 2 hour party, and we suggest, no more than £25 (about US $40). So if you have 10 people attending, you will earn around £80 – £200 ($120 – $350) minus any expenses.
The expenses will include: preparation time of about 1 hour; travel/petrol; small gifts or prizes for the games; printing and photocoping of resources such as the Genie and games; other expenses like balloons if you decide to take them. For a party of 10 people, you will probably spend around £10-£12 ($15 -$20) on resources, meaning a profit of £88-£90 ($135 approx) at the minimum rate.
If you run a party for an organisation or company, we suggest you charge a fee of half your day rate, for a 2-3 hour party, depending on the number of participants and the organisations expectations.
“Can I change the materials and process?”
There is great flexibility in how you run your parties and the games you use, but ask that you always use the Genie during the party.
You will be able to change some of the games to suit your audience, but we ask that you keep the Discovery Party® logo on everything.
Please bear in mind that building a strong brand helps us all, so be mindful of this when running the parties.
“Will licenses be limited to territorial areas?”
No, there will not be a limited number per area. Discovery Party is a not a franchise and we know from other party plans, that there are lots of people in many different places that could attend a party. However, we are an ethical business and will be mindful not to oversell licenses in a particular area.
“This sounds like Multi Level Marketing (MLM) is it?”
No. We operate a flat system e.g. you won’t have teams or have income from other people’s parties!
We don’t take any on-going money from your parties, but the license stipulates that you use the Genie. If you purchase the enhanced package, we will give you 20 Genies to start with, but you will also have a PDF of the Genie to enable you to print your own!
Over time, we may develop some branded goods for sale, but that is not the focus of the business. We want you to focus on running the parties and selling your own products and services…that is what this is all about – you and your business!
“What are the requirements of the license?”
The Genie is a unique and is the signature tool of Discovery Party. We ask you to use this Genie at some point during the party, as described in the manual…there are many ways you can use it!
We suggest that you don’t charge less than £10 ($15) per guest per party, and no more than £25 ($40) per head. This excludes rates you might negotiate for a corporate or team event.
The license is renewable each year, at a small fee of £100 if paid by direct debit.
Other requirements are general stipulations of licensing such as using the Trademark and branding.
“Why is the Genie pack so important?”
The Genie is the signature tool of Discovery Party® sets Discovery Party apart from other coaching parties or processes. The Genie is a coaching tool which also includes several activities that guests can do in the party or at later date.
The Genie includes directions to the website for further materials and gives an opportunity for people to continue engaging after the party.
The Genie pack also includes a code for the guests to gain access to lots of online tools which will keep them engaged with the coaching process and engaged with you, which is what we all want!
To access the additional Genie materials, guests will need to sign up to the newsletter, but there will always be an easy opt out option.
